Regulatory and/or municipal requirements from the local sewer authorities obligate property owners and companies in Obertshausen to regularly inspect and maintain their wastewater pipes to prevent environmental damage and protect infrastructure. The aim is to prevent wastewater leakage and ingress of groundwater into the pipeline system.

The obligation for leak testing is based on the Water Resources Act (WHG). Additionally, state-specific regulations and technical standards, particularly those of the German Institute for Standardisation (DIN), apply. Relevant information is generally provided by the local drainage authority.

For newly installed drainage pipes, leak testing according to DIN EN 1610 is required during final acceptance. For existing wastewater installations, DIN 1986-30 applies. Further requirements and testing details are specified in worksheets of the German Association for Water, Wastewater and Waste (DWA), formerly ATV.

Abfluss-AS conducts norm-compliant leak testing in Obertshausen, ensuring full compliance with the requirements of the responsible authorities. Whether new construction or existing pipelines – with us, you meet normative and technical leak testing requirements reliably and with proper documentation. Particular attention is given to the documentation requirements of the respective authority.

how the inspection is carried out

The video (in German) provides an good overview of the leak testing process. It illustrates how professionals inspect wastewater pipes, perform tests and document the results. The assessment is based on the technical requirements of DIN EN 1610 and the DWA-A 139 technical guideline. The objective is to ensure the long-term, safe operation of drainage systems in a way that is both standard-compliant and transparent.

Municipalities rely on leak testing

l

Even though the regulation of leak testing according to the Hessian Sewage Inspection Ordinance (EKVO) for private households has been suspended in Hesse since March 2012, many municipalities still enact their own deadlines, which are binding for property owners.

According to the EKVO, all private supply channels should have been examined by a specialist company by December 31, 2024. Exceptions were lines that were built after 01.01.1996 or that were permanently renovated. They should have been checked by the end of 2039. This time constrains – as explained before – are currently not in force. However, the specifications of the municipalities are binding

Relevant testing methods for sustainable leak testing

We use modern technologies and standardised procedures to test wastewater pipelines. Whether in residential areas, industrial facilities or municipal networks, our measurement methods deliver reliable results while keeping disruption to existing systems to a minimum. Compliance with legal regulations and the environmental compatibility of the methods used are key priorities. In this way, the proper condition of your drainage system can be safeguarded over the long term.

Property owners are required to test the tightness of their private drainage pipes – to protect groundwater and avoid damage to the public sewer system. Depending on local conditions, either water or air testing is used. Our technicians carry out these tests in accordance with the relevant technical standards and document the results in a clear and traceable manner.

Leak testing in municipal systems

Leak testing in municipal systems

Local authorities must regularly inspect the condition of their wastewater infrastructure. These inspections are carried out in accordance with DIN EN 1610 and DWA-A 139. Our specialists use modern testing equipment to detect leaks at an early stage and to help ensure that drainage systems remain fully functional. This supports not only operational reliability but also the long-term preservation of asset value.
