A general inspection must be carried out on separator systems before they are put into operation. In addition, the separator must undergo a further general inspection every five years thereafter. We will be happy to provide you with an appropriately qualified inspector who will ensure compliance with the applicable standards and regulations vis-à-vis the responsible authorities.

The following maintenance intervals must be observed for grease separators:

  • At least 1x a month: Self-inspection by a competent person.
  • At least 1x per year: Maintenance by a competent inspector
  • At least 1x every five years: General inspection by a competent inspector

Questions and answers

Do you still have questions
about Grease Separators in Mainz?

How often should I empty the grease Separator?

The emptying of the grease separator depends on the size of the system and the amount of grease-containing wastewater that is produced. As a rule, the grease trap should be emptied every 3 to 6 months to ensure efficient operation. In commercial kitchens or businesses with a high volume of waste water, such as restaurants, it may be necessary to empty the grease trap more frequently. Regular maintenance and inspection by specialists ensures that the grease trap is emptied in good time before capacity is exceeded and a blockage or malfunction occurs.

Where should a grease separator be installed?

A grease Separator should generally be installed close to the building’s waste water connection, ideally between the waste water sources (e.g. kitchens, sculleries) and the sewer connection. It must be positioned in such a way that it offers optimum efficiency and can be regularly maintained and emptied. It is important that the grease trap is installed in an easily accessible area to facilitate maintenance work such as cleaning and inspection. Local regulations and standards such as DIN EN 1825 should also be observed to ensure correct positioning.
